It has been an ‘interesting’ year, in the Chinese sense! Few people honestly believed Britain would back out of the EU, but we did. Trump was widely treated as a bit of a joke until he actually won the US election. And just as the UK was recovering nicely from the financial doldrums of the past few years, along come predictions of post-Brexit doom and gloom.
Luckily there’s always another side to every story, a positive to every negative. And in my experience, no matter what happens outside the bounds of a business, growth is always a possibility. Just because times are ‘interesting’, it doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world. Far from it.

Take a recession. Any recession. Yes, you’ll see all sorts of businesses going under, the first wave if you like, the weakest in the pack. But behind them is a stalwart group of organisations that tend to survive no matter what the world throws at them. They have a loyal customer base, a strong brand and a great reputation. They innovate, they’re flexible, they’re intelligent and perceptive, they have their fingers on the button and they move fast when they need to. All of which means that despite everything, they make more profit.
